Analytics is often viewed as something that is done by skilled and trained professionals. The field is deep with buzz [[words]] with many demonstrations of expert power. If you've ever heard a person go on about statistical significance for 20 minutes or show 15 bar charts in a row with seemingly no point, then it's likely you've encountered the kind of analytics where the "don't try this at home" disclaimer seems to be flashing endlessly before you. It can be intimidating and exclusionary. This type of analytics, let's call it stunt analytics, has only emerged fairly recently. These stunt performers have spent years [[learning]] how to light themselves on fire without getting burned. You may be asking yourself if they are stunt performers, then why is it so boring? Well, that's a [[Boring analysis|discussion]] for another day. But, stunt analytics isn't the only form of analysis.
Analysis is examining the [[structure]] of something in detail. It could be a cup of coffee, your schedule, or how to the stock market works. At some point, we all analyze something. If you ever thought about or studied something, then you are an analyst by definition. Congratulations! Yep, that is all it takes. You should embrace your new title as a license to think and examine the world around you. Stunt analysts do not have an exclusive right to think about the world nor are their methods always better. Certainly, they benefit from the years of training their analytics muscles, but you'll also improve with time and experience. Only you see the world through your eyes and your analysis of the world is at a minimum a valuable addition to your own life. Others will see things differently, but your contribution is just as important for consideration.
