# Work and Life in Moderation

Some people believe that if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your [[life]]. Others think that this is utter horseshit. They argue that work takes effort, and there will always be days when that effort is miserable. As for me, I see the value in both sides of the debate. The former is a bit idealist, and the latter is a bit defeatist. The right solution for me is either an oddly defined middle or a regular oscillation between the two views.
Considerable mental effort is required to define a whole new work vs. love philosophy. However, the upside may be a more coherent approach to life. This approach does not require keeping a frequency ledger of when to look for work I love and when to accept joyless work. Despite the frequency ledger, the amount of mental effort required to switch between modes of operation is much less. When you love work, you love work. When you don't enjoy work, you don't enjoy work - end of the story. The frequency ledger keeps you from getting stuck or encountering ongoing negative feedback loops.
I find both approaches interesting implementations of finding and implementing moderation in one's life. Figuring out moderation strategies is probably one of the most important aspects of living a meaningful life.
