# When It Feels Like Analysis is Over

As an analyst within an organization, there is always something to explore. However, it's worth considering what situations would represent an organization's "end" of analysis. One obvious situation is analysis within the organization ends when the organization ceases to exist. Arguments could be made that one could still analyze the organization's ending well after it ceases to exist. Still, at some point, one will reach the end of any meaningful exploration and examination. Simply put, no more data is being generated, life moves on, and one finds something else to explore by necessity (e.g., a paycheck) or boredom. But, are there situations when analysis "ends" while the organization is still operating? Technically, the answer is no. One can always look into something, even if only looking into why analysis has stopped. However, one may encounter a situation where it feels like analysis has stopped, and this feeling is telling. It reflects one's state of existence within the organization. Perhaps one has nothing more to give and one is out of ideas, one has concluded that the end of the organization is inevitable so continuing with analysis will just cause more organizational pain, or one believes analysis is not organizationally valued so there is little point in doing it beyond self-gratification. Each scenario demonstrates that analysis is an intentional and complicated choice of logic, emotion, existence, relationships, and pursuit of meaning. As an analyst, if one feels that analysis has stopped, one has reached a pivotable point of being. Does one choose to exist and collect the paycheck, or does one pursue the next challenge? After all, what does an analyst do when there is nothing more worth analyzing? Can one even be an analyst in such a situation? The end of analysis is the existential crisis that most analysts never see coming, but it is always lurking in the philosophical and psychological shadows of being and nothingness.
