# What Good Box Checking Looks Like By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2023-09-23 If one decides to be a box checker, at least be good at it. What's a good box checker? They strictly follow the guidelines, procedures, and rules given to them. They don't bend the rules or only check half the boxes for their friends. They are sticklers at work. They do nothing else but check the box. They don't chit-chat. They don't care about the watercooler gossip. They are authentic in doing their job of checking the box as exactly given to them. They are procedural robots during working hours but can be entirely different outside of work. However, while at work, they are perfectively predictable in every way. They do what they are told and don't ask questions. The benefit of being a good box checker is one's intentional lack of giving a shit about anything other than checking the box. One need not care about anything happening around them at work other than the status of box checking. The risk of being a good box checker is that one's job is likely close to being automated. If this does not sound appealing, do not simply become a mediocre box checker who asks many questions but hides behind "it's my job to do things this way." Either be a good box checker or challenge the status quo. Existing in the middle pisses everyone off. #### Related Items [[Work]] [[Change]] [[Status Quo]] [[Robots]] [[Autonomy]] [[Life]] [[Solidarity]]
