# We Need to Address the Equality Paradox By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2023-08-08 It is easy to see how everyone is different. It is also easy to see that some people do things better than others. Yet, we speak plainly and naïvely about equality, and ultimately, this will be the failure of the current equality movement. Words, norms, and thoughts are not fully formed around the paradoxes surrounding equality. If one acknowledges that everyone is unique and people innately perform tasks more effectively than others, one implicitly acknowledges that equality, as constructed, is categorically flawed. Without more profound thought and the ability to critique this solid logical argument, one may give up on equality altogether or only focus on passion projects. If one cares about equality, the problem is more profound than legal rights or access to community services. The problem is biological, psychological, and societal. Even saying this may make one want to give up on equality even more. This is a classic marketing trick. Great marketers know that most people will respond to a massive problem with indifference and apathy. For example, oil companies promoted the current carbon and plastics problems. An individual conviction to resolve the equality problem is not enough. One must understand the depths of the crisis and the depths of the human experience. These issues are complicated and paradoxical, but that does not prevent progress from existing. Words and thoughts change for a reason - we make them what they are and where they need to go. Addressing the equality issue is perhaps the most fundamental issue facing all of humanity. It influences how we treat each other and the planet. It will define how we progress as a species that seeks and makes meaning. #### Related Items [[Inequality]] [[Systems Thinking]] [[The Human Condition]] [[Thinking]] [[Psychology]] [[Problem Solving]] [[Culture]] [[Paradox]]
