# Unsurprising System Events By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2024-07-15 Systems shape and constrain action. If the parameters of a system are understood, a simulation can be used to model system dynamics and outcomes. A system will generate both positive and negative outcomes. Often, these outcomes are unsurprising. Even exceedingly rare events can become unsurprising for those attuned to system dynamics. Given that systems produce outcomes, it is wise to examine the degree to which society is satisfied with the system outcomes and how the system can be modified to preclude those outcomes from occurring. Sadly, there is a human tendency to want to maintain the system and layer rules, regulations, and laws to keep the system intact and prevent the undesired system outcome. These can work to a degree, but the system outcome will almost always appear. Changing a social system is hard. It requires unified effort. The outcomes we face as a society are not surprising; they are unfortunate. These system events can be changed. Will we do it? #### Related Items [[Systems Thinking]] [[Events]] [[Society]] [[Outcomes]] [[The Human Condition]] [[Change]]
