# Universal Alignment By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2023-11-15 We often focus on perfect alignment. Pictures should be level with the earth's gravitation pull, equally spaced, and top aligned. All team members need to work towards the same goal with the same energy, methods, and belief systems. While alignment undoubtedly makes many things run smoother, such as engines and bureaucracies, there are times when alignment becomes a perverse habit limiting progress or a distraction from the realities of life. At its core, alignment is an act of rebellion. It's the human response to the chaotic universe and our suffering. By aligning things, we fight against uncertainty in extraordinary ways. We build nations, go to space, and form languages, to name a few things. It is little wonder that we are obsessed with alignment, as all progress could be attributed to it. However, too much of anything is often a recipe for disaster, and alignment is no exception. Insisting that everyone be the same has caused uncountable amounts of suffering in the form of wars, racism, and economics. With alignment comes a responsibility that few recognize. As soon as one begins to categorize people, order books on the shelf, and create templates, one rebels against chaos in the name of progress. But how many know the progress they want to obtain, and what price are they willing to pay for it? Who is to say that one's alignment is correct? In many homes worldwide, we focus on aligning furniture and objects in perfect order or even staged randomness. Perhaps it is essential to have one thing decidedly misaligned to remind us to reflect on the responsibility that comes with alignment. #### Related Items [[Alignment]] [[Chaos]] [[Order]] [[Responsibility]] [[Progress]] [[Suffering]] [[Rebel]]
