# Types of Managers - The Perfectionist

“This is pretty good…I just need you to make a couple of changes….” The perfectionist manager is never satisfied with any work product. No matter its quality, there is always something the perfectionist manager thinks needs to be changed before coordinating it. Dealing with a perfectionist manager requires the development of patience. Projects will take significantly longer under a perfectionist manager. Much of the refinements suggested by a perfectionist manager amount to “happy to glad” changes. If the report said, “the customer will be happy,” the perfectionist manager will suggest that it is changed to “the customer will be glad.” The change will be suggested by the perfectionist manager no matter which word was originally submitted. What makes a product perfect for a perfectionist manager is not its content, but the fact that the manager contributed to the final product. With each revision, the perfectionist manager provides tangible evidence of value added. Does the product need or benefit from the directed changes? Most likely no. Workers stew in tedium, as the perfectionist manager edits away.
