# Types of Managers - The Overworked By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2022-12-23 Throughout one’s career, one will experience different types of managers. It is beneficial to reflect on the various types. One type of manager continuously brags about being overworked. This manager, according to the self-proclamations, works all hours of the night. Of course, the manager leaves about the same time as everybody else, but once home, allegedly, this person is up all night working. Frequently, the overworked manager is staying up so late, making up for the low-quality work being produced within the organization. For the overworked manager, nobody works as hard or produces the level of quality of the manager, so the manager must do it themself. It is interesting to note this type of manager is often late to work and is always running late to meetings. Of course, when this person is late it is considered legitimate because of how late they worked or because they had to stay longer at the meeting to set people straight. Other people’s tardiness is due to being irresponsible or unable to manage one’s schedule. The overworked manager tends to appropriate work. After all, the manager had to “start over from scratch,” so really the manager did it all – every time. Additionally, the overworked manager tends to belittle the work of others. This provides public protection against claims of appropriation. If cornered, the overworked manager would declare, “why would I appropriate your work, there was so little value in it, I had to stay up until 2:00 AM getting it in a form we could present.” Beware of the fragile ego of the overworked manager. #### Related Items [[Management]] [[Paradigms]] [[Business]] [[Ego]] [[Types of Managers]]
