# Types of Managers - The Guest By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2023-01-13 A guest manager comes from someplace else. The manager didn’t advance through the ranks within the department or location being managed. If the guest manager advanced in the organization, it was at a geographically separated location. A guest manager tends to stay at a given location for a relatively brief time. The guest manager frequently says things like, “I don’t know how they do things here, but…” Whereas the guest manager tends to be pleasant, there isn’t much depth. Interactions with the workforce tend to be positive but superficial. The guest manager doesn’t tend to invest in the development of the workforce. Guest managers are loyal to the organization. They are willing to move anywhere on earth to support it. The strength of the guest manager is the variety of experiences one amasses through the frequent rotations. The weakness of the guest manager is that one doesn’t have any experience of depth. The danger associated with the guest manager is that it is clear the person will never be around to face the consequences of one’s actions or inactions. A rolling stone gathers no moss. #### Related Items [[Management]] [[Business]] [[Types of Managers]]
