# Types of Managers - The Eclipsed By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2023-01-19 The eclipsed manager used to be a proficient member of the organization. The eclipsed manager first became a manager based on one’s technical proficiency. Upon assuming a management position, one’s tasks become increasingly non-technical. One’s technical skills atrophy and technology advances. Eventually, unless one does something to counteract entropy, one will discover that one no longer has any relevant technical skills. This is the fate of the eclipsed manager. When this occurs, the eclipsed manager tends to retreat incrementally into one’s office and oneself. The eclipsed manager no longer has the confidence to engagement in the work being executed. Consequently, the eclipsed manager does not engage much with the organization. Because the eclipsed manager lacks confidence in one’s abilities there is also a disengagement from the workforce. The eclipsed manager executes routine tasks but avoids anything new and resists change. An eclipsed manager is a being towards retirement. #### Related Items [[Management]] [[Business]] [[Types of Managers]]
