The disengaged manager doesn’t care about the organization, the execution of work, the development of the workforce, or the advancement of one’s career. The disengaged manager does not care about anything work-related. In extreme cases, a disengaged manager might not care about anything at all. There are certain cons associated with working for a disengaged manager. For starters, one will not receive any guidance or support. Further, it can be challenging to maintain [[motivation]] when “the boss” tells you that none of this stuff matters. However, there are a few benefits associated with working for a disengaged manager. First, one has nearly complete autonomy. If one knows what one wants to do, there were will be very little in the way of administrative barriers preventing one from pursuing it. Second, one can do all the work the disengaged manager isn’t doing. In short, there is an opportunity to stand out and make a name for oneself organizationally. A disengaged manager will likely produce an extremely split office. Part of the office will grumble that the manager doesn’t provide the support and encouragement needed to work. The other part will relish in the freedom provided by the disengagement. Working for a disengaged manager is revealing. #### Related Items [[Management]] [[Business]] [[Types of Managers]]
