# Types of Managers - The Comedian By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2023-01-06 Knock, knock…Who’s there? It is the comedian manager. This type of manager approaches the workforce as a trapped audience. Every organizational event is used as an opportunity to tell jokes. Only a couple of rules apply. First, the manager is the only one who is permitted to tell jokes. Second, everybody is required to laugh, or at a minimum, smile. In extreme cases, the comedian manager may not even be innately funny. In those cases, a comedian manager might read jokes from a joke book. The comedian manager will tell the workforce that jokes are a way to lighten the mood and humanize the work environment. The actions frequently betray something else. The comedian manager craves attention and wants to be surrounded by positive acceptance. Every joke is a desperate cry for approval. The jokes are tired and devoid of wit or edge. They are artifacts of a bygone era. Like a whipped cream pie to the face, a handshake buzzer, or a whoopee cushion, the jokes of the comedian manager are basic and predictable. The melancholy laughter reveals only the gap between the real and the synthetic. The biggest organizational joke is the differences in wages between the top and bottom. The comedian manager somehow never remembers to tell the workforce that classic joke. #### Related Items [[Management]] [[Business]] [[Types of Managers]]
