# Types of Managers - The Appropriator

The appropriator takes credit for the work of others. The appropriator-type manager is focused on the organization but has a relatively low degree of focus on the workforce. The workforce is simply a means to an end, and the end is the advancement of one’s career. The appropriator does not tend to discuss things in terms of “we.” Rather, the focus is exclusively on “I.” With time, the workforce will attempt to prevent the appropriation of one’s work. One approach is sending things as pdf of locked files. Another approach is starting to courtesy copy individuals at higher echelons within the organization when one forwards the work for which the appropriator intends to take credit. As the appropriator attempts to gain credit, the workforce mobilizes passive-aggressive resistance.
