# Types of Families By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2022-12-17 There are two types of families. One type is the family that raises you. Most likely you are genetically similar, but this is not always the case. This family cares for you physically, emotionally, and mentally. Sometimes this ends in adulthood, other times it lasts a lifetime. Sometimes this group is small, other times it is large. This type of family has a purpose, intention, and value. The other type of family equates to nothing more than strangers who get together based on largely misunderstood belief systems. Here families are about traditions and doing the right thing by the tribe. It is an ancient belief system that emerged for survival purposes. It shows up today whenever physical survival is in question. For example, groups quickly form family bonds in highly stressful situations. However, these stranger families mostly exist today as cultural artifacts. When these families get together without any tribal purpose, it is instinctual hedging just in case the social fabric of our society falls apart. If you believe this could happen or lack friends, stranger family gatherings feel critical. But, this perspective fails to see that these types of stranger families naturally emerge during times of stress. You could equate maintaining extended, stranger family gatherings to keeping a massive standing army even after the war is over. Those who strongly hold on to stranger family gatherings may be blind to alternatives, how their feelings emerged, and the depth of their existential anxiety. For these individuals, stranger family gatherings are valuable, but for others, they seem antiquated and meaningless. It is easy to see why so many modern stories exist that describe the pain of these gatherings. There are many ways to view and analyze the world. Within business, the same dynamics exist but are complicated by managerial and power hierarchies. #### Related Items [[Paradigms]] [[Value]] [[Family]] [[Beliefs]]
