# Things Done and Undone By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2024-09-10 Task-oriented people like to accomplish things. When an assignment is given, they tend to set out and work on it until it is resolved. These people then look for the next assignment. Based on this perspective, tasks, once fulfilled, are considered finished. In reality, many tasks are subsequently undone. Sometimes, a given task will be done, undone, done again, and undone again in an infinite series. It is probably best that the person who accomplished the task has moved on by the time it is undone or redone. One would reasonably feel defeated by such an occurrence. This isn’t a necessary interpretation of the events, but it is certainly understandable. When one embraces the flow of existence, such trivialities melt away. There is only the current moment. All that came before and is yet to be does not exist. There is only now. There is only what one is doing. When one can let go of the past and avoid investing in the future, one has energy and attention for the here and now. Since this is all there is, everything else is seen as the distraction that it is. Whether something is done, undone, redone, or abandoned is largely immaterial. What matters, if anything, is the degree of authenticity with which one approaches a task and the degree of fulfillment one experiences through the engagement in that moment. No legacy ever lasts. When one realizes this, it is easier to abandon ego, let go, and let the moment be whatever it is. Tasks will be done and undone. One is either part of the flow or attempting to fight against it. Frustration comes from fighting against the flow. Peace and perspective come from accepting it. There is no need to look for an opportunity to put this into practice. The moment will find you. You are living in the flow when you can joyfully create things you know will not last and undo all you have dedicated your life towards. Tragedy, beauty, success, and folly merge into one. #### Related Items [[Work]] [[Life]] [[Distractions]] [[Wu-Wei]] [[Present]] [[Authenticity]] [[Fulfillment]]
