# The Wisdom of Few Friends

It is foolish to forecast and prepare for a single outcome. A knowledgeable person considers many possibilities and prepares accordingly. A wise person knows the game and decides to play it by different rules. Coach the foolish, advise the knowledgeable, and befriend the wise. But avoid any of those who are stupid. They will only drag you down with them. Stupid people are those who hurt themselves and others. Indeed, one can be wise and stupid. Overall, because we tend to underestimate those who are stupid and they outnumber everyone, it is best to have few friends and people one relies upon. One will still interact with them as it is unavoidable; they may even call one a friend or close colleague. But don't let this trick one into considering them a friend, even if one has a drink with them after work. This is the first step down the stupid ladder into the stupid pit of unnecessary suffering. Once one is down there, it is nearly impossible to get out as they constantly pull one down into their misery.
