# The Three Things I Look At By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2023-08-30 Nobody sees the three things hanging on the wall above my desk, but I constantly stare at them. These three things are a mathematic diagram of the golden ratio, a blueprint schematic of one of the first computers (the ENIAC), and a mirror. Nobody I work with sees these items because I mostly work remotely, and they only see a strategically positioned scene of décor and furniture behind me. Furthermore, we rarely have visitors over to my house. So, indeed, these items are just for me to look at. What one puts on their walls is interesting, especially if no one else ever looks at them. The golden ratio diagram and ENIAC blueprint were intentional choices. The golden ratio represents hidden order in the chaotic universe of endless suffering. The ENIAC blueprint represents the human desire to build a better future beyond oneself from a notably scientific and engineering perspective. If one knows me, I suspect these will seem appropriate. However, the third item, a mirror, was not my intentional choice. Instead, my wife thought it would look nice, and I agreed. It wasn't until recently that I realized how important the mirror was in rounding out the other two perspectives. Here, the mirror represents mindful and intentional self-reflection. Perhaps it is no coincidence that the mirror came last and unintentionally via a loved one. Regardless, each perspective and observation reminds me about the nature of the universe, humanity, and progress. #### Related Items [[Knowledge]] [[Progress]] [[The Human Condition]] [[Computers]] [[Technology]] [[Science]] [[Suffering]] [[Mindfulness]]
