# The Power of Persistence By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2024-01-03 What is one capable of achieving? It isn’t easy to measure potential. It is even more challenging to forecast who will fulfill one’s potential. Often, the focus in this area is that one improves and overcomes difficulties through persistence. This can undoubtedly be the case in some circumstances. But this isn’t necessarily the core power of persistence. Perhaps one doesn’t improve at all through the process. There is a subtle benefit to persistence even when ability remains constant. The power of persistence doesn’t reside fundamentally in improvement but rather in the apathy of others. If one persists when others do not, one will eventually win. Success can be an act of attrition. Simply persisting can be the reason one is successful while another is not. This can perhaps be seen best in organizations like the Boy Scouts. Reaching Eagle Scout is an accomplishment. But the accomplishment has more to do with most Boy Scouts giving up rather than overcoming any inherently difficult task. Not giving up can be an important key to success. Skill and improvement will take one far. When those elements have taken one as far as one can go, persist. #### Related Items [[Achievement]] [[Perseverance]] [[Persistence]] [[Skills]] [[Talent]] [[Potential]]
