# The Power of Engagement By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2023-12-07 There are different sources of power. Intelligence, money, connections, and position each provide one with a potential basis of power in organizations. Some of these elements are easier to enhance than others. There is another potential source of power: engagement. Unlike many others, this source of power is earned by the individual. Showing up, being prepared, helping others, and monitoring all tasks to ensure the entire project is successful, not just one’s assigned part, is a basis of earned power. Being engaged is important and beneficial. Many people focus on earning a paycheck and finishing one’s work. Engagement is more than this. Engagement is a personal investment in the quality of the result. Part of success is looking at all the potential bases of power and then focusing on the most amenable to improvement. Engagement is perhaps the element of power most responsive to individual effort. Being engaged is a commitment. Investing in oneself unlocks an important source of power and motivation. #### Related Items [[Power]] [[Work]] [[Engagement]] [[Success]]
