# The Genetic End of Ideas By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2024-04-06 Where do ideas come from? One may think they come from within each person as our central processing unit within our heads. However, I suspect the beginning of an idea starts with exchanging information that often comes with interactions. Strange things begin to occur when one is completely isolated from others, both physically and synthetically (e.g., watching videos of people), for extended periods. Individuals often lose touch with reality, and many would call it torture. During this time, one is consumed by one's thoughts, which are stuck in an endless loop. There is only a generation of new ideas with some external stimulus. Think of it this way: ideas are the children of information exchanges. If information is not exchanged, no new ideas emerge - just as new children are not generated without some exchange of genetic material. A certain amount of 'mixing it up' is needed to create an idea. Otherwise, one only generates infertile and inbred ideas. This speaks to the value of diversity in the gene pool of ideas. This is why organizations need to hire outsiders, why libraries should allow access to 'banned' books, and why one should occasionally seek out something entirely uncomfortable. The trouble is that sometimes the ideas generated will be dangerous and spread like cancer. This is what the conservative perspective fears. However, the alternative is losing touch with reality as ideas stagnate and go nowhere. Many Americans might argue that the liberal perspective is 'winning,' but the ideals it sought were mainly achieved and put into motion in the 1970's. No profound ideas have emerged since then. As both liberals and conservatives increasingly isolated themselves from each other, both of their ideas became stagnant, infertile, and inbred. This could explain why both sides increasingly produce more extreme ideas that become more unreasonable daily. Eventually, the problem will take care of itself as the ideas will reach a genetic end and be unable to reproduce. If one is unwilling to wait, consider authentically mating liberal and conservative ideas to see what emerges. #### Related Items [[Liberal]] [[Conservative]] [[Ideas]] [[Genetics]] [[Systems Thinking]] [[Metamodernism]] [[Progress]] [[Information]]
