# The Best of the Worst

There is a human tendency to try and find silver linings. There is also a human tendency to try to find harbingers of doom during wonderful days. There is always room for hope or despair. This is almost a natural tendency, although it is more or less pronounced depending on the individual. If things are placed along a spectrum, there is undoubtedly variation. One could examine income in this way. In the examination, one could use the actual income level. Perhaps one’s income is $32,000, or $67,000, or $250,000, or $5,760,000,000,000. The number could be almost anything from zero to infinity. The number tells one something. But then we want to categorize these into groups. At first, we get things like lower, middle, and upper classes. But then these aren’t granular enough, so we create more like upper-lower-class, middle-middle-class, and lower-upper-class. Are these distinctions a better description than simply knowing the income levels? If so, in what ways are they better? Adding categorization upon categorization seems like a way to get to the best of the worst understanding possible.
