# The Anchor of Certainty By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2024-03-10 There are situations where one's interpretation of one's actions is questionable. Is one justifying a behavior to avoid self-scrutiny, or is one simply describing a reasonably objective view? Can we adjudicate the difference? Alas, we cannot. The relativity of one's position and finite computational ability makes it impossible to know precisely what is happening. Essentially, one's interpretation of the situation is merely a model and, by definition, wrong. However, all is not lost. One is ahead of the game if one is even asking the question and comes to a doubtful position. Embracing doubtfulness creates a superposition of endless possibilities that enables thinking beyond the superficiality of certainty. There is nothing more uncertain than certainty. The idea of certainty, a correct answer, and an objectively true reality is the source of one's anxiety. Without it, one can explore the depths of humanity, meaning, morality, and wisdom unincumbered by the anchor of certainty. #### Related Items [[Philosophy]] [[Thinking]] [[Truth]] [[Uncertainty]] [[Meaning]] [[Wisdom]]
