# Study Hall

In thinking back to high school, it comes to mind how differently people made use of the time in study hall. Some students would do homework that was assigned that day; other students would be doing homework that was due later in the day. Some students would read; other students would pass notes (obviously this was before texting). Some people would find some pretext for leaving; others would do absolutely nothing, just zone out. There was a great deal of variety as to what people were doing. Study hall is a potentially interesting event to examine because it is a point at which nothing is assigned. There are few rules and one can make use of the time largely as one sees fit. This is one of the freest moments during school. Organizations frequently ask for a student’s GPA to ascertain if a given individual might be a good fit. Given the degree of frustration on the part of both employer and employee, this approach is suspect. Perhaps it would be more informative to find out how a given individual made use of study hall. This might be a better predictor of performance at work.
