# Selling Out as the Universal Socio-Economic Value of Our Time By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2024-01-18 If one is going to sell out, do so early and often. Selling out late minimizes one's earning potential because the longer one has sold out, the more compounding interest one will gain from the early sale. Additionally, selling out late puts one at a higher risk of being discovered as a sell-out. There is simply more evidence demonstrating that one was not a sell-out. If one sells out early, it is harder to determine if one is just this way or a sell-out. While this last point may seem important, it is only important for those who have yet to embrace selling out fully. For those who have sold out, it matters very little. If one sells out early, one can more easily find one's way to the top of organizations as a "true believer" in the organization's mission and values. If one thinks this is not real, consider how frequently "leaders" change companies versus how many times one's values shift. Today, most people change employers every two to four years. If one believed in the company's mission and values, would they so quickly leave for another with different missions and values? Now, how often do people change value systems throughout their adult life? Many never do. But, even generous estimates would put a value change once every 20 years. While there is art in telling a story about why one leaves an organization for all the right reasons, the frequency of change indicates that selling out may be our time's defining characteristic. In fact, selling out may be our time's only universal and coherent value. I can think of no other higher-order value than this that has so much universal regard. If this feels disgusting, one is becoming a radical, and radicals desire change. Achieving this change requires a new game worth playing. On one side, some radicals seek a universal socio-economic value alternative to selling out. Conversely, some radicals embrace selling out as the most powerful change agent the world has ever seen. It enables state transitions at a rate only dreamed of in the past. The trouble is ensuring the state transitions move in directions that support human solidarity. #### Related Items [[Selling Out]] [[Value]] [[Mission Statements]] [[Economics]] [[Society]] [[Radicals]] [[Truth]]
