# Saying Goodbye to Go Forward

Most people do not develop their thinking beyond high school. If one develops beyond this, one will often leave these friends behind because one has other interests and things to discuss. Later, many do not develop their thinking beyond their 20s. They stay there forever, focused on modern and maybe post-modern thoughts. Again, if one develops beyond this, one will also leave these friends behind. Finally, only some continuously develop other ways of being throughout their adulthood. Once one transcends the previous way of being, all those who didn't accompany them on the journey seem oddly behind. Conversations are no longer attractive, and their concerns are hardly yours. If one does not develop while one's friends do, one will probably also want to disconnect from them as they have weird new ideas and their lives look markedly different. This dynamic represents a major challenge in developing as an individual and a society. We strive to be around people like us, but sometimes, that is ahead or behind where we are. Society in an immature state may pull more people backward than forwards. Individuals who choose to move forward face an increasingly isolated path and must say goodbye to the past. Thus, it takes significant comfort to go alone, be alone, and strive for something more. Many never make it.
