# Resisting Plutocracy By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2025-02-24 As part of DOGE, Elon Musk has now asked government civilians to provide him with a justification for their employment. The problem with such a practice is that any justification provided can be found wanting. One could accomplish one monumental task, and the response could be that the individual did not accomplish enough different things. One could accomplish many tasks, and the response could be that the individual didn’t accomplish anything of merit. The problem is that the arbiter can adjudicate any way one wishes on a case-by-case basis. This is the textbook definition of arbitrary rule. Ideally, the federal workforce could simply ignore this absurd request made by an unelected individual. If forced to reply, it would be great if our American civil servants could respond to the wealthiest person on earth with “Elon, thank you for your interest in improving government efficiency. Since I neither work for you nor am I accountable to you, your insertion into this area is entirely inappropriate, and I will not provide you with a justification. In fact, your involvement in this area would be illegal if our Supreme Court wasn’t bought and paid for by the plutocracy.” But our federal workforce can’t do this. Unfortunately, our civil servants are now vulnerable to the whims of the wealthy because the plutocrats have purchased all three branches of our government. The capitalist elites can do whatever they want to those in the working class with impunity. We should question a situation in which the world’s richest man is gutting the federal workforce while he continues to gorge himself on billions of dollars in federal contracts. One can only assume Musk considers the billions of dollars he receives in corporate welfare to constitute efficient, legitimate government spending. The situation is absurd.
