# Relationship(s) Matter By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2022-11-13 A thing by itself is meaningless. What is an apple unless we recognize that it comes from a tree, is a fruit, falls to the ground, and can be eaten? A thing without a relationship ceases to be anything at all. A word without a definition that relates to other things is something we can't phantom. Thus, an entity is its relationships and nothing more. When we see a dog in a park, we are not seeing the dog but the relationships of that dog. The dog is an animal, a childhood memory, a pet with owners, and a thing that sleeps at night. We are the relationships we have. So, what does that make you? What and who are you connected to? How are you connected to them, and why? As much as it pains many people and analysts, relationships not only matter, they are the only thing that does matter. #### Related Items [[Relationships]] [[Identity]] [[Ontology]]
