# Progress and comradery

Can someone be a good analyst without ever participating in what they are analyzing? For example, can a person who's never worked in the healthcare industry be able to effectively analyze problems of the healthcare industry? On one hand, data is just data, and systems can be broadly classified into several repeating patterns. On the other hand, not fully understanding and [[living]] the dynamics of the system makes it hard to communicate and find solidarity with those the analysis is intending to support. An analyst can likely add "scientific" [[value]] without ever participating in the system of interest, but the question is whether that "scientific" value will translate into any sort of organizational response.
Scientific analysis is a necessary but not a sufficient condition for achieving progress. Who is delivering the message, how they are delivering it, and their shared experience with the audience is just as critical as the message itself. Before delivering that message or analysis, make sure the audience is prepared to receive you as a comrade.
