# Productive Mindfulness

There is much written on mindfulness these days. The individual purposes of it widely range from viewing it as a meaning-making mental state (Youtube yoga) to a strategy for dealing with the advances of technology and the trend toward anxiety (Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport) to simply a tool for distilling ideas and focusing. (Original by Adam Grant)
What's the point? Are there more fundamental benefits to mindfulness, or is mindfulness just a competitor with sticky notes?
My approach to mindfulness and its usefulness:
- A contemplated worldview, integrating historical and cultural ideas with day-to-day lessons and pondering the human condition can lead to more settled convictions that move outward. (for me, this has led to strong spiritual beliefs with an emphasis on sacrificial love)
- A clear head, arguing against cognitive distortions, and focusing on what is in my control and meaningful leads one back to the real world of physical interactions, relationships, and the potential for gratitude. (for me, this looks like sitting on the porch with my wife at dusk without a phone)
- Searching for the nature of the problem, integrating concepts across disciplines, and practicing active comparative thinking enables one to creatively summarize an objective and design an approach that provides dignity in work. (today, this will be at-home diagnostics planning)
