# Paying People to Do Good so They are Good

Let's say it is one's job to murder innocent people as dictated by one's boss. Is it morally right for one to murder people in this situation? Some say this is immoral, even if it is one's job. Yet, many say it is morally acceptable. I do not say this without evidence. I have asked, and people have responded this way without much thought. Perhaps after some more discussion, those who were ok with murdering people if it were their job would see that this position is questionable at best. However, the fact that a significant portion of the population would lean this way shows how far we've come as a rule-following and money-focused society. Thus, the manipulative and morally bankrupt situation we find ourselves in is not surprising. Some believe a return to lost values is the answer, while others seek to place themselves on top for the wrongs perpetrated against them. But can one put the toothpaste back in the tube? Additionally, is it right to manipulate others as one has been manipulated? We are not thinking about such things. We are only concerned with what people are paying us to do. Perhaps here lies the path forward. Let's pay people to do good things if we can determine what good means.
