# Organizational Languishing By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2023-01-26 Negative outcomes are relatively easy to identify and address. Organizational languishing is more challenging. Failure to make progress can be a source of frustration. Activity without accomplishment is fatiguing. When organizations languish, apathy can set in the workforce. Organizations languish when their strategic goals are either ambiguous or uninspiring. Humans are meaning-creating animals. We long for our life and effort to hold significance. Often our efforts are reduced to economic transactions through which one’s labor is transformed into a means to an end. Often under that formulation one works to earn money. Work can be more. Often humans aspire for it to be so. But what exactly? Defining a linkage between one’s work and social-existential value can be complex. This can become progressively complex as one earns more money as the situation one faces becomes increasingly absurd. Organizational rhetoric is insufficient to the task of real, lasting meaning. Authentic solidarity can be a way to establish meaning through work and allow us to transcend organizational languishing. In so doing, we will produce value, not just profit. #### Related Items [[Organizational Analytics]] [[The Human Condition]] [[Purpose]] [[Absurd]] [[Progress]] [[Strategy]]
