# On the Potential Eve of Destruction By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2024-11-05 Some moments could be historical cleavage points. Not all these points turn out to be so. Those points that are not so pivotal get relegated to obscurity. A few will know of them, but most will be unaware that things could have been radically different. Often, when dealing with social history, all one can do is play one’s relatively minor role and then wait to see what happens. During the waiting, there is much to think about. Figuring out how we got here is a good place to start. Determining what, if anything, can be done is a good second step. At some point, it is beneficial to stop thinking about things outside of one’s control. One can only hope for the best on the potential eve of destruction. Humility in the face of uncertainty is a wise strategy. It is easy to confuse what one thinks one wants with what one thinks one knows about the future. The future is uncertain. For those actively engaged, there can be a mix of anxiety and depression as one waits. Or maybe those emotions are anticipation and excitement. It’s a fine line. Hopefully, we can find a way to move forward together as a society. We need to come to a better appreciation so that we can be fully who we are and accept those radically different from us. We can find joy in the successes of others and anticipate that there is a real chance that we, too, can be successful, happy, secure, and fulfilled. We have the capacity for greatness. Let’s hope that we find the inspiration to enact it together. #### Related Items [[History]] [[Thinking]] [[Uncertainty]] [[Society]] [[Future]] [[Greatness]] [[Despair]]
