It is revealing what people are willing to do for money. People who are otherwise aggressively critical are willing to bite their tongue to get paid. As the saying goes, the person who pays the piper calls the tune. People familiar with this dynamic do not like it when even a hint of resistance is given. If anything other than gratitude is shown, the person with the money often becomes incensed. What frequently happens is the same response given by spoiled, rich kids: one will take one’s ball and go home. This dynamic plays out again and again in cases large and small. Money creates the illusion of greatness. This illusion is punctured when those with less or without critique those with money. The greatness is a façade.
