# Metathinking By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2023-03-11 There is utility in thinking about thinking, or metathinking. How does one make sense of things? How is one convinced? How is one inspired to create or do (something – anything)? In the context of freelancing these are foundational for the accomplishment of work. Organizations, for a variety of reasons, are slow to change. Those in charge exercise authority to direct work; subordinates seek external direction and validation. All the technology in the world won’t change that dynamic. This model can be perpetuated without thought. For those wanting something different, it is doubtful that one will find it. Rather, one will likely need to create it. But to really get at the core of this concern, one cannot create it alone. Tackling organizational problems at scale and in a radically new way requires more than one person. It requires solidarity. This solidarity can be achieved only by authentic collaboration. Before one can do this one has to spend some time interrogating what one thinks. Metathinking provides a foundation to understand one’s thoughts and aspirations, which in turn provides a basis for authentic, collaborative solidarity. If the status quo is working for you, think no further. It will only cause you problems. #### Related Items [[Thinking]] [[Freelancers]] [[Work]] [[Change]] [[Solidarity]] [[Authenticity]]
