# Meandering Journeys versus Curated Stories

The concept behind [[Don't Overthink This]] is to write for 20 minutes a day to capture thoughts, feelings, and experiences related to work, living, and thinking. In short order, we've amassed hundreds of posts on many topics, yet we find that there is still more to write about. The exercise is equal parts self-actualization, discovery, refinement, and reflection. It continues to be worth it for these reasons. However, our written and spoken words have not caught on and become "popular." This is due to many factors. Marketing, or lack thereof, is critical, but the most significant factor is that our product does not sell itself in its current form. We've gotten thousands of LinkedIn views the few times we've posted our content there, but this did not translate into reoccurring visits or subscriptions. Perhaps we need more time and persistence. This will come naturally as these posts and podcasts still provide intrinsic value for us to continue regardless of popularity. But, given our calls for progress, it may eventually become disheartening and unfulfilling to keep putting ideas out there with nothing to show for it. Constant reframing and repositioning back to the original internal purpose is vital.
Furthermore, it is critical to realize that there is a distinction between what you do for yourself and what you do for others. The two are intertwined, but the packaging is entirely different. These posts and podcasts represent our journey, which is very unique and meandering. We consume so much curated content that we often need to remember how muddy and circular our pathways are. Every step matters mightily to you and those you are closest with, but no one cares about your details as they have plenty of that themselves. People want the story arch, the curated point, and the nugget of wisdom that helps them along their journey. At [[Don't Overthink This]], we openly share our meandering journey that is only interesting to some, but there are stories and wisdom to share. It's all about the editing, curation, and packaging. The next time you are working on a presentation or report, ask yourself whether the information is for you or someone else.
