# Lost Opportunities By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2024-04-19 Where do the best and brightest of one's generation focus? Is it politics, physics, education, diplomacy, philosophy, social justice, and the arts? Or is it business enterprises? There is certainly an overlap between all of these, but where a generation focuses, it indicates what it finds important or at least rewarding. Given the lack of progress since the 1970s, most items in the first list are not collectively and systemically seen as important or rewarding. Who are the titans and heroes of the 80s and beyond? Who is pushing the boundaries of philosophy and physics? Who is the national treasure who is advocating for transformative social justice? Can you name anyone who emerged in the 80s and beyond who is not a business billionaire, defunct head of state, or a pop star? Perhaps the internet age has defused our collective ability to focus and elevate the meaningful via the classic social channels. Or, the last 40 years have been a waste. When I look around, I can't help but feel the lost opportunity and lack of ingenuity. Consequences loom if we cannot recover from the post-modern response to being and existence. #### Related Items [[Post-modern]] [[Metamodernism]] [[Progress]] [[Focus]] [[Society]] [[Business]]
