# Long Time, First Time By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2024-06-17 With radio programming, there is a phrase that callers sometimes use to introduce themselves to the host. This phrase is, “I am a long-time listener and a first-time caller.” The “long-time, first-time” phenomenon has broader potential than talk shows. Many people are long-time workers yet remain unengaged in worker solidarity. They experience hardship and degradation but feel it must be endured and forgotten after their shift. If more workers became “long-time, first-time” activists, some of what is accepted as just the way work is could be changed. But it will only change for the better if people engage. Otherwise, those in positions of authority will take perks away and see what the workforce is willing to tolerate. #### Related Items [[Work]] [[Solidarity]] [[Identity]] [[Authority]] [[Tolerance]]
