# It was so Funny I Forgot to Laugh By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2024-06-13 A common retort of Pee-Wee Herman was, “It’s so funny I forgot to laugh.” There is something to this construction that is useful for organizational analysts. Often, one’s work is not used. Management might respond, “It was so powerfully insightful that I was unable to use it.” When management does not use quality analysis, this likely reveals how management operates. In short, they are uncertain about what they need to prepare for work. Rather than figure this out, they ask an analyst to prepare an assessment. In the crunch of execution, the manager would rather spend their time producing whatever they want than reading and understanding the material in the requested analytic report. Who can blame them? Creation is much more gratifying than studying and synthesizing. The part of this that is interesting is management’s inability to learn. This process plays out time and again. It would be more efficient for the manager to fabricate what one wants. This is what will happen anyway. The continued request reflects both a lack of awareness and an inefficiency. However, it provides a “backup” that is comforting. The manager can copy and paste from the analytic report in a pinch. But again, this is a last resort. Management frequently requests analysis and seldom uses it, producing an absurd situation so funny I forgot to laugh. #### Related Items [[Organization]] [[Management]] [[Analytics]] [[Reporting]] [[Reflection]] [[Humor]] [[Work]] [[Thinking]]
