# Is There Anything You Need for this Task By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2023-04-10 Discussions about work execution could be significantly reduced if they centered around determining if there was anything one needed to accomplish the task. If there isn’t, the person should be allowed to execute without being bothered. If there is, management should find a way to resource the task. Making this the center of the discussion puts the person assigned to executing the task in control. If the person needs a new computer, better software, more time, or another person assigned to the effort, it is up to that person to articulate the need to management. Further, this approach highlights that the initial set of resources assigned to the task was simply an estimate. Perhaps more is needed. This will be discovered through execution. People feel constrained by initial positions. They figure management knows what it is doing, or did what it did for a specific, well-thought-out reason. Sometimes this is true. Often it is not. Focusing on what is needed for success allows those engaged to discuss the task more beneficially, improving the situation for the worker and the organization. #### Related Items [[Work]] [[Management]] [[Empowerment]] [[Organization]] [[Business]]
