# Individual Universality By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2023-06-23 The intentionality of writing brings with it clarity of thought. But this is only half of the story. When I start writing, I find new ideas emerge. These ideas pop into existence without any prior contemplation. How and why this happens eludes me, but the writing process clarifies my thoughts and generates entirely new ones. It's a strange phenomenon if one believes they completely control their mind and body. However, neuroscience shows that our body starts to act before we are consciously aware of the action. In other words, one is deciding before one is aware of making said decision. For example, baseball players are swinging the bat and hitting the ball outside the consciousness realm. So, who is steering the ship? Who is swinging the bat? Is it one's conscious self or this spooky other self? Is there a difference? Believing we are a single entity is likely a paradigm that will stop being popular in a few hundred years. Instead, one may embrace that one is paradoxically many things. One is the product of everything else, an infinitely connected entity. This view is problematic in today's single-entity mindset as perhaps one is scared of becoming a communist or is worried about individual responsibility. However, it does not stop one from operating with intentionality and accountability. It just means one acknowledges and embraces everything that makes one who one is. When I write and new ideas emerge, I recognize a part of me that was locked away from my day-to-day life and consciousness. How many other elements of oneself are going unacknowledged? As one thinks further about this, one will realize the importance of solidarity because one is many things, and these many things are connected. Self-actualization is paradoxically about everyone else. #### Related Items [[Thinking]] [[Writing]] [[Self-Actualization]] [[Progress]] [[Solidarity]] [[Psychology]] [[Paradox]] [[Paradigms]]
