# How to Stop Time By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2024-03-31 There are forces in the universe that are inevitable. There is little hope of escaping once caught within one of these forces. The future is so certain that time ceases to exist. When time stops, the present takes on a new meaning. We may think we cannot move if time stops because we think of things as having different positions at different points in time. But, this is merely a model, and all models are wrong. Another model is to track positions relative to each other irrespective of time. If one were to look at a map of this, one would see a blur of many overlayed positions. If this seems weird, consider that this is essentially how physicists see electrons 'orbiting' an atom. Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle states that we can only know a particle's position or momentum when we measure or observe it, and we cannot know both. So, we could think of ourselves as having infinite positions at any moment, but we only see one when we choose to observe its existence. Observing a particular state, remembering it, observing it again, and then thinking about differences provide an illusion of movement, and the gaps are explained by the idea we call time. But what if we stop observing? Time stops. Now consider the inevitable universal force. We know the momentum here, so we cannot observe our position and time stops. Perhaps this explains life flashing before people's eyes and time "standing still" when we realize where it's all heading in something like a car crash. Now consider larger inevitable forces like the propagation of disorder (death, decay, etc.) or systemic demographic shifts that take decades to unfold but are highly predictable. Why does time seem to not stand still for us under these situations? Mainly because we choose to observe ourselves and not our momentum. If we looked at our momentum authentically, we'd see time would stop. Some see the momentum and do things we consider foolish, and we tell them things like, "Act your age." We think others are wise beyond their years and float unconcerned about their positional changes. The construct of time is merely an idea and a model. One can choose a different model that might be more useful at any time. #### Related Items [[Time]] [[Observing]] [[Paradigms]] [[Science]] [[Present]] [[Future]] [[Past]] [[Models]]
