# Good People

Within organizations and society, there is no shortage of good people. Whenever there is hardship, additional work, or pain, good people chip in and do more. They resolve issues, provide comfort, give perspective, and they bring peace to turmoil. The crisis we face is not due to a lack of goodness, but a lack of leadership. In fact, the crisis we face is a lack of leadership. Sure, there are people in positions of power. But these people aren’t leaders. They are grifters. Not all of them, but enough of them that society, when measured politically and economically, is trending downwards. This is a social problem. It is a social problem of significant, strategic concern. At the core of this issue is that our good people, which are everywhere, are not our leaders. Perhaps good people avoid leadership. Perhaps what it takes to become a leader transforms good people into cynical opportunists. Perhaps, secretly, we think good people are chumps and we don’t want them as our leaders. It is wonderful that we have good people to triage our socioeconomic carnage. It would be better if we had good leaders who made it unnecessary to do so.
