# Going to War with the Army One has By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2023-04-28 Before 9/11, Secretary of Defense Don Rumsfeld embarked on a major transformation of the military. This transformation ground to a halt when the United States was attacked and mobilized for war. At one of the press conferences, Rumsfeld was asked about the fact that the transformations he thought were necessary were not going to be implemented and that he would have to execute this war with the traditional military. He responded, “You go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time.” Organizations and individuals can benefit from this insight. We all “go to war with the army we have, not the army we want.” One isn’t a better analyst than one currently is. One can identify areas in which to improve and take time to enact those improvements. But right now, there is work to do. Analysts need to take their current skills and apply them the best they can. Could a “better” analysis be done? Probably yes. Will a “better” analysis be done? Probably not. You are the army your organization has. Go to war! #### Related Items [[Action]] [[Analytics]] [[Development]] [[Organization]] [[Problem Solving]]
