# Finding Enough - Response By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2026-01-08 The concept of enough is indeed everywhere once one starts paying attention for it. Whereas this concept can be applied to a variety of spaces (e.g., coffee, conversation, money, years, cake), there is utility in examining how enough gets enacted. Enough can be dictated. In this form, enough is established through power dynamics. One can prohibit more or enforce cessation. When dictated, one is left to either make peace with the adjudication or fight for its expansion. Children are often subjected to this form of enough by parents and teachers. The second form of enough is the natural satiation that occurs through consumption. In this form, consumption itself extinguishes the desire for more. When one is in tune with oneself, one can recognize that one has experienced enough and that it is time to transition to something else. The last form of enough discussed here is the enough that comes through excess. One example of this is when one is addicted to something and eventually hits rock bottom. Through the excess, a point of enough is reached, and one realizes that not only is more undesirable, but that avoidance might also be desired, or needed. How one experiences enough, and how one makes sense of what to do next, is likely contingent, or at least influenced, by the form of enough, whether forced, natural-rhythmic, or excessive. In a society in which excess is glamorized, it is difficult to come to terms with enough. Often we see it, understand it, and experience it, but we seldom cultivate it as a desirable adjunct to existence. Seeking enough points to pivots. Economics provides some insight into this phenomenon through its law of diminishing returns. Listening to the peace of enough is contrary to our dominant social ideology and is therefore inherently revolutionary.    #### Related Items [[Enough]] [[Experience]] [[Economics]] [[Ideology]] [[Revolution]]
