# Finding Enough - Proposition By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2026-01-03 The concept of "enough" appears everywhere once you start paying attention. Enough sleep, enough coffee, enough of this conversation, enough money, enough years, and enough cake. It's such a simple word for something that underlies everything. When do you recognize that you have enough? How can you tell? In my younger years, "enough" always seemed to be just out of reach, like a distant goalpost. If I could just get there, then I could finally rest. But goalposts tend to move, and so I kept progressing while they shifted further away in an endless cycle of ambition. The interesting thing is, "enough" arrives on its own, regardless of whether you realize it. Your body might signal that it has had enough, even when your mind is still bargaining. The afternoon light shifts and tells you, “enough.” Often, there is a part of you that is simply done, regardless of whether you consented to it. Perhaps the real challenge is learning to say “enough” around the same time life does, instead of being dragged there. Most people will eventually come to this realization, because life will inevitably declare, “enough.” That’s not a sad thought; it’s just the way things are. Doors open and then close. You can keep knocking on those closed doors if you wish, but eventually, you'll wander down the hall and discover one that opens and that's where you’ll go. I had enough cake last night, and I've had enough of this thought. The word "enough" continues to resonate, no matter where you apply it. Perhaps that’s the most interesting aspect of it. #### Related Items [[Enough]] [[Words]] [[Life]] [[Thinking]] [[Acceptance]] [[Philosophy]]
