# Doing Something or Nothing By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2022-09-29 [[Life]] is challenging at the border of nothing and something. Doing nothing sometimes implies giving up all hope and subscribing to meaninglessness. Other times it means embracing the nature of the universe and achieving inner peace. Doing something sometimes implies taking ownership of the future you want. Other times it means spinning in circles and realizing you wasted your life on a pointless endeavor. Every day we face the challenge of doing something or nothing. If we were not aware of time, then we wouldn't have this challenge. We would just exist. However, because we know the flow of time and can make predictions we are cursed with the anxiety of something or nothing. If you are more industrious, your tendency may be to do something. In this case, I'd urge you to give nothing a try. Conversely, if you are not industrious and tend to do nothing, then perhaps try to do something. Moderation is a key principle in nearly all aspects of life. Knowing who you are and your tendencies will lead you down a path to finding a mixture of nothing and something that could lead to meaning. At a minimum, it will help you build a more coherent narrative of your life that is less focused on the end and more focused on the [[jazz]] that is your life. The point of jazz isn't to get to the end of the song but to appreciate the ongoing uncertainty and choices at the border of nothing and something. The border may be challenging, but it's certainly more interesting. If we appreciate the border and accept our nature, perhaps we take away its power over us. Therefore, this makes the [[choice]] of nothing or something a moment to celebrate as that's when our life is on full display. So, where do you go from here? It's time to choose something or nothing and maybe live a little. #### Related Items [[Self-Actualization]] [[Self-Improvement]] [[Existential]] [[Living]] [[Time]]
