# Do Something By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2025-02-27 There is much that lies outside one’s control. Things happen. When it seems that events are largely beyond one’s control and most occurrences are perceived as negative, it is understandable that one would feel a sense of helplessness. When this happens, a downward spiral may not be far behind. One feels helpless, loses the motivation to do anything, and becomes increasingly depressed, which feeds the feeling of helplessness, and the cycle continues. Action can interrupt this pattern. Ideally, one could take steps related to the negative aspects outside one’s control. However, since those things are beyond one’s control, there’s not much to be done about them. No matter; any action will suffice. One can learn a new skill that potentially opens up different options. One can explore a new hobby that adds a degree of fulfillment and creates a buffer against all the negativity. The issue's essence is that when one feels least capable of taking action, doing something becomes most vital. Action can serve as a form of resistance against despair. Any positive effort directed toward a fulfilling task enriches one’s life. Finding something, anything, and investing oneself in it is advantageous. Completing an inherently rewarding task during chaotic and despair is an act of rebellion. Do something. If one can’t fight against the powers that be, one can at least pursue an interest with joy. #### Related Items [[Action]] [[Motivation]] [[Fulfillment]] [[Resilience]] [[Life]]
