# Dealing with the Uncertainty of Analytics within an Organization By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2023-05-19 Within an organization, the role and positioning of data and analytics is challenging. It is conceptually new to business operations as something deemed essential. It will take several generational cycles for it to find its place amongst the status quo. In the meantime, we are stuck dealing with uncertainty on both sides. Veteran managers are uncertain how to make it successful and integrated. Analysts are uncertain about what their role is and how to operate to best support the business. This uncertainty has many side effects from poor performance and inefficiency to pockets of extreme success residing next to pockets of disfunction. Eventually, an executive will make it their mission to solve the problem. Endless meetings, interviews, and working sessions will result as these are the tools in the modern manager's toolbox. However, if no one in the room has the organizational analytics experience with the vision of what is analytically possible to support the business, what hope does the organization have at finding a real and lasting solution? Think of it this way: would you try to solve finance, human resources, or legal problems without accountants, HR professionals, and lawyers present? Yet, many organizations attempt to solve organizational analytics problems without analytics professionals who have the experience and vision to make analytics successful within organizations. All of the meetings, interviews, and working sessions are a bunch of people with no carpentry experience debating about how to best build a house. They may eventually figure it out, but hiring a carpenter is the most effective thing you can do to get started. The trouble is there aren't many analytics professionals who have lived experiences of analytics success in organizations. At this moment, the chicken or egg struggle is real. If you are an analyst who has seen success, write about it and share it with others. If you are a manager looking for answers, hire one of these analysts who have demonstrated organizational success to help you. #### Related Items [[Analytics]] [[Organizational Analytics]] [[Business]] [[Profession]] [[Meetings]] [[Management]] [[Status Quo]]
