# Days of Ingratitude

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Tomorrow is a day for sharing gratitude with one’s family and friends. Perhaps the day before Thanksgiving should be Ingratitude Day. This could become like Halloween, where debauchery reigns the day before All Saints’ Day. It could be like Christmas Eve, in which one takes a running start for the celebration the following day. In the Halloween model, one would be obnoxious, taking everything and everyone for granted. This would likely be an extreme version of what most people do most of the time. Maybe we would seldom be able to notice a difference. If the Christmas Eve model were adopted, one would spend Ingratitude Day reflecting on how we take each other for granted. Through this day of reflection, one would enter Thanksgiving, ready to rejoice at the gifts from being in a caring environment. The day before an event can be important. It can be excited; it can be mellow. Either way, big events cast long shadows. The shadow of Thanksgiving is upon us. And I am grateful for the opportunity to reflect on the opportunities lost in the days of ingratitude.
